Orono Basketball Association (OBBA)

Player Code of Conduct

I hereby pledge to live up to the Orono Basketball Association’s (OBBA) standards by following its code of conduct. We ask each player to agree to the following principles and code of conduct:

  • I will remember that the goal of the game is to have fun, always strive to improve my skills and put forth my best effort.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship from my teammates, coaches, parents, and officials at every game and practice by personally demonstrating good sportsmanship.
  • I will treat all athletes (teammates and opponents) as I would want to be treated and I will not mock or make fun of others. No bullying, or any form of intimidation will be tolerated, ever.
  • I will listen attentively, be on time, and let the coaches help me become a better player and person.
  • I understand that part of learning and playing sports is about making mistakes and I will do my best to bounce back from mistakes.
  • I will play the game with humility, celebrating successes respectfully while accepting defeat gracefully. I will always show respect for the game.
  • I will not argue with officials or coaches, nor will I complain about calls during a game.
  • I will use self-control to avoid losing my temper and I will never retaliate even if I feel I have been wronged. I understand foul language is not acceptable.
  • I deserve to be treated respectfully and will tell a trusted adult if there are actions or words by players, coaches or others that make me feel uncomfortable.
