Orono Community Education offers a travel basketball program for boys and girls in grades 4-8. 5th-8th grade teams are formed by ability level after the conclusion of tryouts on October 6. The 4th grade teams are divided into equal teams after their first 2 practices in late October.
The girls season starts the week of October 21 and the boys season starts the week of October 28. The girls season will conclude with the state tournament on March 2. The boys season will conclude on March 9 with their state tournament.
Teams generally have 2 practices per week. These are scheduled during the week the afternoon or evenings and occassionally on Saturdays. The 5th - 8th grade teams will have between 30 and 40 games on their schedule. These games are generally scheduled on the weekends (Saturdays & Sundays). The 7th & 8th grade teams will also have afternoon games during the week with other schools in our athletic conference. The 4th grade teams will play in 8 weekend tournaments during the season.
Parents are required to work a shift at one of our two basketball tournaments. The Boys tournament is scheduled for December 6-8 and the Girls tournament is scheduled for January 25-26.
We employ paid coaches for our 7th and 8th grade teams. We use volunteer parent coaches for our 4th-6th grade teams. A coaching application is available on this website. Please return your application to Brian Bergstrom at Orono Community Education. firstname.lastname@example.org
Uniforms are included in the registration fee for 4th graders. 5th-8th grade athletes will wear their uniforms from last year or purchase a new one at tryouts. Uniforms and merchandise will be available to try on and order on Saturday, October 5th.
Midday Madness will be held on Saturday, October 26th. More information will be available later in October about details for that day.
